When to disenroll

You may request disenrollment from an MA plan during a . Unless you qualify for a Special Election Period (SEP), you will need to disenroll:

  • During the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) between October 15 and December 7 each year, or
  • During the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP) between January 1 and March 31 each year

How to disenroll

You may disenroll from your Bright HealthCare Medicare Plan by:

  • Enrolling in another Medicare Advantage plan. Enrollment into another Medicare Advantage or a prescription drug plan will disenroll you from your Bright HealthCare plan. The termination will be effective on the last day before the new plan’s effective date. i.e. effective date of new policy is 7/1/2019, last date of coverage with Bright is 6/30/2019.
  • Providing a written notice to Bright HealthCare by mail or fax, signed by you or a legal representative.
  • Calling 1-800-Medicare.

Disenrollment effective date

If you join another plan or disenroll during OEP (between October 15 and December 7 of each year), the effective date of your disenrollment is January 1 of the following year. You must continue receiving Bright HealthCare benefits until your effective date.

If you disenroll during the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (between January 1 and March 31), your disenrollment from Bright HealthCare, and enrollment in Original Medicare, is effective on the first day of the month after we receive a valid disenrollment form.

If you disenroll during a Special Election Period (SEP), your effective date will depend on your circumstances and election period.

You will receive written confirmation of your disenrollment and effective date within 10 days of submitting a valid disenrollment request.
